ZOOM IN - Special Project and Award
VIDEO LOUNGE - The Video-Forum of Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.)

Curated by LaRete Art Projects
OPENING December 3rd, 2013, 6-10 pm

LaRete Art Project’s curators Julia Draganović, Elena Forin and Claudia Löffelholz are proud to announce ZOOM IN, a special project and an award devoted to video, and the Video-Forum of Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) invited to the CONTEXT 2013 Video Lounge in Miami.
ZOOM IN is a new special project selecting and awarding a video artist and the gallery presenting his or her work. Raphaëlle de Groot (z2o Galleria l Sara Zanin), Jay Yan (Galleri Urbane) and Nicholas and Sheila Pye (Curator’s Office) are the three artists selected for their notable significance.
One of these moving images will be honored with the inaugural ZOOM IN Award, chosen by an independent committee of experts. The first artist and gallery to win the prize package valued at $20,000 will be announced at the fair on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
Furthermore, building on the fact that since 2008 Miami’s anchor fair has put a strong focus on video art and new artistic technologies with its state-of-the-art video lounge, LaRete has invited the Video-Forum of Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.). Now in its 42nd year n.b.k is considered the oldest collection of video art in Germany. For the Video Lounge at CONTEXT the head of the n.b.k. Video-Forum, Kathrin Becker, has chosen four works from an archive of more than 1,600 videos spanning the history of the medium. The special program the Video-Forum has curated exclusively for CONTEXT features Hartmut Bitomsky, Anetta Mona Chişa & Lucia Tkáčová, Hito Steyerl and Amir Yatziv. Recognizing the origins of video technology within the military, this exhibition stimulates a timely dialogue with a critical examination of the complex military technology, ideology and politics of imagery.
