Jeanne van Heeswijk. It Runs in the Neighbourhood
Screening and Artist Talk
neon>campobase, Bologna - October 28th 2010, 7.00 pm

October 28th Jeanne van Heeswijk, one of three finalists of the International Award for Participatory Art, will hold a lecture about her work at the Fine Arts Academy of Bologna as part of the course in Cultural Anthropology (with focus on urban anthropology and public art).
The same day she will show It Runs in the Neighbourhood a soap opera which van Heeswijk shot at the the Stavanger University Hospital (SUS), Norway in 2008, at neon>campobase. It's a docu-drama soap in 6
episodes based on real life situations with the purpose to give the public an insight in the everyday life of the hospital and the medical and ethical dilemmas that the hospital employees encounter. The six episodes were shown on internet, in public screenings and television. At the same time, the Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) communicated directly with the public via a new interactive website dealing with issues raised by the series. The crew consisted in the artist Jeanne van Heeswijk and numerous volunteers from SUS, who were writing the manuscript, shooting the film, lighting, sound and other technical work, make-up, scripts, directing and all the other tasks involved in a fully-fledged TV production.
