Curated by Julia Draganović, Elena Forin and Claudia Löffelholz
December 2nd-7th, 2014 | OPENING December 2nd, 6-10 pm
The Art Miami Pavilion | Midtown, Wynwood Arts District, 3101 NE 1st Avenue, Miami, FL 33137
LaRete Art Projects' Julia Draganović, Elena Forin and Claudia Löffelholz are proud to announce their commitment as curators for the 25th edition of Art Miami, Miami's historic fair of contemporary and modern art, and for the third edition of CONTEXT Art Miami, the strictly contemporary branch of the fair presenting two curatorial projects: Perceived Values and Hot Spots.
Perceived Values explores the concept of value over the course of the last decades. What is deemed "valuable" today? "Value" is not primarily a question of economy, precious materials, expensive processes and/or prices, but a question of ethics. Expect to see statements on what is worth living and working for, intimate as well as socially engaged positions regarding the question: what counts in life?
The collective unconscious represented by Internet and its images in the large installation composed of LCD monitors by Teresa Diehl (Galerie Anita Beckers), the re-use of found materials in the pieces by Michael Zelehoski (Mike Weiss Gallery) and Bob Snead (Arthur Roger Gallery), the floating landscape of empty bags made by Wen Hao (Klein Sun Gallery), the statements about the current state of the economics of the art world of Eldon Garnet (TORCH Gallery) or the parody of mythological buildings and cities operated by Simón Vega (Galerie Ernst Hilger) are only some of the issues touched by Perceived Values: these and other thought-provoking projects will transport viewers as they navigate the fair.
Perceived Values includes as well works by Alexandre Arrechea (Magnan Metz Gallery), Soly Cissè (Ethan Cohen Fine Arts), Jess T. Dugan (Catherine Edelman Gallery), Peter Sarkisian (Modernism), Sheldon Scott (CONNERSMITH) and Peter Weber (Galerie Renate Bender).
