On January 25, the international Jury will make their final decision and the public will have the opportunity to see the winning proposal along with the projects of the other two finalists at La Pillola, Bologna.
After a year of work, residencies and appointments by the three finalists - Etcetera, Emilio Fantin and Jon Rubin - The International Award for Participatory Art, launched by the Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna and in collaboration with LaRete Art Projects and La Pillola, will announce the winning project that will take form in the city of Bologna during the course of 2013.
On January 25, the international Jury will meet at La Pillola to discuss their final decision. The jury is composed of Julia Draganović, the curator of the Award, Alfredo Jaar, one of the most influential artists in the international panorama of contemporary art, Rudolf Frieling, curator of the Department of Media Arts at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Bert Theis, artist, curator and co-founder of OUT-Office for Urban Transformation and Isola Art Center, Milan, and Luigi Benedetti, Director General of the Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna.
Afterward, the doors of La Pillola will be open to all who want to learn about the winning idea as well as the proposals of the other two finalists, with an exhibition of the project proposals prepared by the artists themselves.
The year 2012 was dedicated to the finalists' encounter with Bologna. Accompanied by the curators Julia Draganović and Claudia Löffelholz of LaRete Art Projects, the artists explored the city, got to know the major players and took in various stimuli and inspiration for the design of their project. The Argentine collective Etcetera and American Jon Rubin held their residence at Nosadella.due, whereas the Italian Emilio Fantin, residing at home, was able to test an idea he already had. Fantin's proposal of a "Dynamic University" was put to a test in two public meetings in Spazio Barnum and the Centro Amilcar Cabral.
Each artist brought his own approach and methodology in the field of the city, showing the different paths along which art can generate participation, and taking its own artistic form.
