JON RUBIN, FROM “CONFLICT KITCHEN” TO BOLOGNA
Residency program of the 2nd edition of the International Award for Participatory Art. 14/05>21/05/2012

His most famous project is perhaps “Conflict Kitchen”: he created a take-out restaurant in Pittsburgh that only serves cuisine from countries with which the United States is in conflict.
Certainly this is emblematic of Jon Rubinʼs way of making art: he creates interventions into public life that reinvent social and political conditions and create new platforms for agency, participation, and exchange. Not by chance that "backyards, living rooms, and street corners"are also cited in his biography, including exhibitions at international museums and biennials.
The artist is a finalist of the second edition of the International Award for Participatory Art, - promoted by the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Regional Governement, in collaboration with LaRete Art Projects and La Pillola, and curated by Julia Draganović and Claudia Löffelholz - with the collective Argentine Etcetera and Emilio Fantin.
Jon Rubin will appear during his residence in a series of meetings, including a lecture at the Academy of Fine Arts (May 17 from 1 pm to 3 pm), and also informal encounters, driven by his curiosity and desire for discovery. His base in Bologna will be Nosadella due, the residence for artists and critics.
