Claudia Löffelholz

Claudia Löffelholz is a German born curator. After passing her Master's degree in Romance and Germanic Philology, she started her career as a cultural manager for Kulturbüro LaRete, Weimar, organizing European exhibition projects (überMENSCHEN, EUROPA VIDEO ARTE, RADAR, Coniugazioni).

Her curatorial research focuses on time based art and new artistic strategies, especially on social practices, site and audience specific projects. In 2004 she founded together with Julia Draganović the curatorial collective LaRete Art Projects. From 2009 to 2013 she worked as co-curator for the International Award for Participatory Art promoted by the Legislative Assembly of the Region Emilia-Romagna, Italy in collaboration with LaRete Art Projects realizing site and audience specific projects in Bologna among which Ælia Media by Pablo Helguera.

She curated various exhibitions, projects and performances in Italy and abroad, among others: solo shows by Filippo Berta, Charlotte Ginsborg, Tea Mäkipää, Dannielle Tegeder and Michele Zaza; together with Julia Draganović the cycle of performances VIRES. Exercises on Power–Exercises of Choice by Maria José Arjona (Bologna, 2010) and thematic group shows like The Eye of the Collector (Villa delle Rose, Bologna, 2012), Me, You, We and the Others (Fotografia Europea, Reggio Emilia, 2012) and Boys or girls? Who cares?! (Art Miami, 2012). Together with Federica Patti she curated Icaro Zorbar's workshop, performance and solo show (MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, 2014). As 6th chapter of LaRete Art Projects' long term project Click or Clash? Strategies of Collaboration (2011-ongoing) she worked together with Julia Dragnovic on a exhibition project focused on IRWIN (Galleria Civica di Modena, 2014; Kunsthalle Osnabruck, 2015, Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art, 2016; Centre Pasquart, Biel/Bienne, 2017). 

Löffelholz is the Director of the School of Advanced Studies of Fondazione Modena Arti Visive (where she also teaches History of Moving Image at the Master's program and curatorial practice at the curating course ICON) and of the Public Program and Education Department of the Foundation.

She is a member of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art) and she has published numerous essays and articles.
